  For my collection, I am using my own experience and the experiences of others to explain and justify the design choices I am making through the use of dresses and accessories that are made to empower women, but also refer back to their femininity in a modern and more robust way. In my collection, I included themes and motifs that show a visual representation of my 5 main elements under gender roles and how women are affected by each of these elements daily. They include power/dominance, society, sexuality, economy, and household because these key elements affect the roles and the associations we have and put onto women not only around us but also in our own mindset. The collection embodies the shapes and silhouettes of traditional and modern clothing, but will contain a graphic typeface of the motif that I am using along with a shoe and a hat that represents the society and then the sexuality that women face, so I wanted to give women something that they can either “cover” themselves up with or else be able to “stand” on top of adversity. Although gender includes men, women, and so many others, I want to mainly focus on the dynamic of women in relation to men in spaces such as at home and then in the workplace. So, my main goal is to show how the fashion industry targets women in these strict norms and “boxes” and how I can make a graphic statement on it in an invasive visual way that gives a direct, symbolic translation to the public surrounding the issues and stipulations put on women.
